Job

I found a new reception job in the city, which I am stoked about.  I told one of my bosses and her response was:

We knew we were safe when you were applying to jobs in your field… but when we heard you were applying to veterinary reception jobs and thought, “uh oh…”

I don’t think she meant it to be an insult, but yes, “my field” means anything having to do with art.

If I think about it logically, my life makes sense: I was torn as a child between working with animals or doing art, and now I do both, and on my own terms.  I have stable employment and am self-reliant.  I do only art projects that interest me and that I find fun to do.  Yet from the tone of voice and what folks say to me, I get the impression that people think there is only one option to pick.  Either I must be desperate to finally get into “my field” because nothing else could make me happy, or I am now finally working in the field I wanted and should go back to school to study what I am really interested in.  Perplexing.

Wow it is really nice to hear this from someone who’s actually doing it.
